P5 b) Content

The key content of my social media website will be centred around maps and locations, users will be asked their whereabouts in order for walks to be calculated. The home page will feature a feed much like Twitter with the user's profile situated to the right.  The feed will contain posts by 'friends' (other users that the key user has chosen to 'follow') and will also show a 'Daily Route/Area,' this is a town or village that is currently popular for dog walkers. A popular route will be based on factors such as the weather, distance from the user's home and its mentions from the user's friends.

The user's profile will contain: a profile photo, name, a short biography and images of their dogs as well as their breeds. From their profile they will also be able to access their friends and their favourite routes; by clicking on the friends icon it'll take the user to the friend list where they can then view each individual user's profile. The favourite routes page will display the user's favoured routes and those they have walked, it will show both walks they have already completed and those they have selected for their "wish list" (walks they wish to complete in the future).

For the website to be used to its full potential it is best if it is linked up to a pedometer. This could either be within the mobile app itself or if it is a desktop exclusive user it would need to be connected to either a pedometer device or another mobile application such as "Pedometer++." This will allow the site to track the user's movements and draw their route onto a map which can then be viewed later.

Log in box

Log in screen

The log in screen will feature the log in box and an image in the background that changes every so often (a cycle of around 10 images), the image will feature dogs on walks and enjoying themselves to entice and appeal to the target audience. Users will have the option to log in with Facebook, Google or create an account on the website. Logging in with Facebook will take the users' name, profile image and location, it will also suggest friends already made in Facebook that also use this social media. Signing in with Google will take the users' name and location and creating an entirely new account will mean everything will have to be inputted manually.

Home screen

The home screen's predominant features are the timeline, the tool bar and profile. The timeline or feed will show the user's posts as well as their friends', it will also feature areas that are currently popular amongst friends and other user's in the user's location. This featured area will also display posts made by friends made about this specific location and it will give details about it such as the weather (taken from BBC Weather) and the items in the area such as lakes and forests.

Regarding posts, users will be able to share comments, photos and routes with others. These posts will often contain key words or phrases that can be clicked to then view more information, for example; usernames, dog breeds, place names. The feed will also contain advertisements; companies and businesses will pay to advertise their products on the website. All adverts will be targeted for the specific audience so will include companies such as Pets At Home and services such as local dog groomers. The user will be able to click on them to then visit the website or user profile of the company.

The tool bar situated at the very top of the homepage shows a selection of icons; home, messages, search, settings, graphs and maps. Home will return the use to the home page, messages will open up the inbuilt messaging service and search will allow the user to search items within the website such as certain friends or locations. Settings will take the user to a page in which they can alter their account, for example change their biography, profile photo or privacy settings. The graph icon will show the user their walks over time, daily, weekly, monthly and yearly; it will show their longest walk, most active area e.t.c. The map icon will bring up a page displaying the user's favourite routes and maps of areas they have visited and wish to visit.

The profile on the right of the page displays the user's photo, name, location and a short biography. There is also an option to display the dogs you own (if you own any) and which breed they are, this way the user can view other users that have the same or similar breeds to their own. This is a particularly useful feature as some dogs may only get along with their own breed or if a user is looking for a stud dog or bitch to breed their own with. Also shown on the right is a preview of the favourite routes page and the messages; the messages box will also display notifications once the user receives a message. For privacy, users can choose to only receive messages from mutual friends.
