The overall purpose of my social media site is to bring people of all ages, gender, sexuality, race and background through a love of the outdoors and dogs. It will be a way for dog owners to share and update others on their favourite routes while also learning more about other places they have have not yet visited. Whether the user has a dog or, it will be a great way for people to meet up and walk together, meaning this site could technically double up as a dating website. It is not its intended purpose but it could also be a great way for people to offer dog walking services for those who are unable or simply cannot walk their dog for whatever reason whether that be a particularly day of the week or at all.
Also, because it will be available to people all over the county and uses location services, users can notify others on certain obstacles that may obstruct another user's planned walk, for example a beach on which dogs are not allowed, or a firework display that may upset a user's dog. It will be a great encouragement for people to go outside and exercise as there will be a monthly/yearly statistic feature which can be matched against friends, also user's can set personal goals as well as there being site generated objectives for which the user will receive virtual rewards and medals.
This site is designed to broaden dog walkers' horizons and introduce new, exciting areas and paths into their lives, while also helping improve the health and wellbeing of not only themselves, but also their dogs. It will also build a community both online and in the user's home area as they can meet people in their hometown who they may never have met before. It will also be an excellent way of helping more introverted, possibly anxious individuals overcome their fear of the outdoors and physical confrontation; it is well known that dogs reduce stress in humans and create a very relaxed environment. Also they are a great talking point and can spark interest even if that person is nervous when speaking to others.
Overall I want the app to improve the lives of not only dogs but their owners and friends, I want it to be a safe and positive online space for people to share and express their memories and experiences whilst simultaneously improving their lifestyle.
